City Reaching is nothing new, it’s built on God’s heart for cities as demonstrated in both Old and New Testaments.
It, of course includes villages, towns, boroughs, and regions. City is the shorthand way of referring to any distinct geography that is placed on our heart for Gospel Saturation and Transformation.

These are the vision phrases that shape the mountain we are climbing:

Kairos Connexion’s fundamental conviction is that it will take the whole body of Christ to reach a whole city. This means that success is predicated on strong bonds of love and trust between church and ministry leaders being forged over many years. It means we no longer cling to ego or logo. It is also implicit that the focus of their unity will be the completion of the Great Commission in their locality. It is a kingdom mindset.

The 5 priorities below create a strategic framework for the work of City Reaching.

Five Priorities for City Reaching

  • We know that prayer is the foundation of everything we do, ‘it’s where the heavy lifting is done’. As Spurgeon said ‘It’s the slender nerve that  moves the muscles of omnipotence.’

Prayer starts at street level, and we are partnering with Neighbourhood Prayer Network https://www.neighbourhoodprayer.net/ to cover as many streets as possible in our town/city/borough in prayer on a daily basis. Why not sign up now for regular encouragement and join the thousands of others who are doing the same

Leaders will be pray together regularly, for each other, and to exercise their God-given authority for their city to see the breakthroughs come for gospel saturation and transformation.

City wide gatherings for all the saints to pray together will fill the spiritual atmosphere over the city with faith and push back the powers of darkness.

  • We serve the city by individually practicing acts of kindness, corporately through social action and social justice projects, and through marketplace engagement. As we work together we look for opportunities to collaborate, support each other, share best practice, and join up the dots for social action to avoid duplication or competition.

These demonstrations of the gospel also build credibility for a gospel that can then shared one to one, proclaimed in pulpits, and through Alpha courses or the like. As we train our members to be confident in sharing their faith, we also create opportunities within the projects to sensitively and appropriately offer not just practical help for the here and now, but also words of life for eternity.

  • At the heart of our aspirations for growth in the body of Christ, in quantity and quality, is our priority of creating disciple making strategies. These are not a one size fits all, but a framework that allows each church that is engaging with City Reaching to create their own bespoke disciple making pathway. We help people to create a pathway that takes people from pre-disciple to disciple maker, from spiritually unborn to spiritual parent, and from lost to leader.

This obviously begins with the need to see people brought to faith in Christ. So evangelism is the starting point for disicple making.

To help raise the evangelistic temperature in our cities we offer a partnership with the Palau Association. They have been instrumental in some of our cities to help local evangelists create a team that works for the whole body of Christ to plan for and to deliver evangelistic events. At the heart of this is a need to equip the saints to be confident in sharing their faith, and to nurture emerging evangelists within congregations to serve their local churches with their gifting. In 2026 we will be running our first cohort of leadership teams from local churches who want to experience a 12 month disciple making lab where they will get the opportunity to design and build their own effective disciple making pathway. If you are interested in this and would like to register your interest, please contact Nic Harding.

  • To truly saturate our cities with the gospel we need communities of believers all across our geography and amongst every people group. We think it will take 1 in 1000 to achieve this. In other words, one missional expression of church for every thousand people. That is on average for every 4 streets! Our hope is that within 10 years we would be able to say that ‘Everyone knows someone whose life has been changed by Jesus’, and that 'Everyone knows of a local group of believers where they can go for practical help, or on a spiritual journey to faith in Christ.’ This will take a lot  more expressions of church than we currently have. Approximately 5x more.

So we need to be planting all kinds of church, everything from micro to macro, from house churches to neighbourhood churches, to bigger resource churches. This is something that city wide church planting collaborations can serve to help the different streams and denominations work together to support each other, create and share resources, offer shared training, and ultimately plant more churches. Mapping the city is likely to be needed in this process

On top of that we believe there is real potential to rapidly grow the number of missional expressions of church by helping traditional small groups discover a missional dimension and take spiritual ownership of the locality or people group they are reaching out to. To this end we are releasing a new resource in the Autumn of 2025 called ’The Adventure’. A nine session course that helps small groups discover their missional calling and equip their members to be missionaries to their places.

  • This is much ignored to the peril of many pastors and leaders. We all know of people who have burned out, or had moral failure, or just quit because the life of church leadership is hard. Few understand the pressures of church leadership unless they have experienced it. Leaders falling out of ministry is a cause of much discouragement, and sets the cause of gospel saturation and transformation back. Leader Health is key to the sustainability of our work.

So we are looking at multiple ways of creating resources and contexts where people can be supported. Support for mental, emotional, physical and  spiritual health as well as support for ministers’ marriages and relationships.  We want to see opportunities for leaders to be able to retreat and refresh from the daily pressures of church leadership. Counselling and support groups are likely be part of this. We are the body of Christ and need to take time for our own health as well as the health of others.

We’d love to connect with you.

  • We gather one or two key leaders from each town or city for encouragement, peer learning, progress updates, and inputs from those who have contributed to the summits.

  • Nic and others are willing to visit your town, city or borough to share the vision with groups of leaders, and to encourage them in the unfolding of that vision.

  • Nic is always available for individual consulting and coaching calls, and others from other Kx streams may be drawn in if helpful.

  • At present we are working with teams of leaders from 10 towns, cities and boroughs in the UK. A number of other locations are exploring working with us. We gather annually for encouragement, input, and to reset our 12 month plans for our locations. This years gatherings are being held in London (Oct 13/14th) and Liverpool (Oct 15/16th), to serve the north and south of the UK. The booking link which contains more info is here
